Dr. Demers is passionate about creating an affirming, non-judgmental, and compassionate space for individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community and people in non-traditional, non-monogamous, or polyamorous relationships.
Dr. Demers believes that a trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationship is necessary for meaningful behavioral change. His approach emphasizes the development of rapport and encourages patients to provide open and honest feedback throughout the therapeutic relationship. His practice utilizes a variety of modalities including cognitive behavioral (CBT), acceptance and commitment (ACT), dialectical behavioral (DBT) and functional analytic (FAP) therapies.
Dr. Demers completed his doctorate at Adler University in Chicago. He has experience working with school-age children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Demers worked in the not-for-profit field where he treated individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (including autism spectrum disorder) and co-occurring anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and impulse-control disorders in both individual and group modalities.
Dr. Demers has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient private practice, schools, therapeutic day programs, and mobile crisis prevention. He previously trained agency staff and families who support individuals with high-intensity, challenging behavior in crisis de-escalation.
