As a practicing Buddhist and a Gestalt therapist, I am very interested in the here and now. How are you stopping yourself from manifesting a fully functional and fulfilling life? When we restrict our awareness, we limit our possibilities for growth and a meaningful existence. I enjoy working with the taboo, the forbidden. Many of my clients live alternative lives. You are who you are. The work, as I see it, is to accept who you are and get on with enjoying yourself and your life.
For many years, I have worked in the field of family law, counseling hundreds of clients through divorce, custody battles and domestic violence. These experiences, and many others, led me to become a therapist.
I work with individuals and people in relationships of various types (couples, triads, etc.). I specialize in: LGBTQQIA issues; sex and sexuality issues; polyamory; kink; grief; trauma; elders & aging; and intimate partner violence.

Hello! I’m a highly trained and experienced psychotherapist, with a personal history in the kink/poly communities. I understand the difficulty that we have when seeking counseling, from folks who may not quite fathom the nature of our identities and choices, or who may have some judgments around that. I do great work with both individuals and couples; and am also very attuned with how various addictions and compulsions enter our sphere. I’m a solution-focused therapist, and will work diligently with you to build the life you seek.

My focus is on holding space for you so that you can achieve healing and empowerment. I am a sojourner on your healing path.
You may be wondering how you are possibly going to put your life back together. Or, maybe, perhaps you’re praying that you can finally put the vice down. Maybe the heartbreak of loss and unexpected endings is eating you up. We might be a good fit for one another if you’re queer, poly, considering recovery, interested in a somatics based practitioner, and vibe with crystals and energy. Whatever it is, let’s share a cup of coffee and figure it out together. If you are committed to your wellness and have a desire to seek restoration for a weary soul, hit my line. Let’s Get Well, Y’all!
As a trained addictions counselor, I work with people who are experiencing emotional pain and want it to stop. We find that pain in a variety of ways and the suffering feels completely overwhelming. I get it. I overstand. Let’s turn and face that something inside of that desperately wants to be healed.
I’m always eager to integrate holistic, intuitive, and eclectic methods including dream therapy and bibliotherapy. As a Focusing Oriented Therapist (a somatics based practice), which comes from the Gendlin school of thought. This allows clients an opportunity to get out of their heads, into their bodies, and engage polyvagal regulation. This is particularly helpful for clients struggling with emotional regulation, trauma, and coping skills. My 2.5 year FOT training included Serge Prengel (Proactive Change & Active Pause), Leslie Ellis, and Jan Winhall. In this training program, we focused heavily on trauma and co-occurring disorders. You can listen to more about my call to serve through Focusing in this interview with Serge posted on The International Focusing Institute website.
In addition, we looked at creating a more grounded sense of self as one recovers from trauma and impulse control. Also, through my additional training and certification with Leslie, I explored how trauma and anxiety show up in our dreams and nightmares. The dream focusing provides an even deeper context for addressing these issues. Additionally, I am a CCTP (Certified Clinical Trauma Professional) and CCTS-A (Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist-Addiction).
Further, I often use the expressive arts in my practice with clients particularly bibliotherapy. Clients have also found the use of sand play to be helpful at understanding patterns and increasing resiliency.
I value authenticity, integrity, and transparency. You are invited to show up as your full self, authentically, unapologetically, and without hesitation. We ground in mutual practices of affirmation. I expect integrity and offer that to you without reservation. The only way to grow is by facing the shadows so we can bring life.

Hi! My name is Dr. Lana Holmes. I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in the metro Atlanta area. Specifically, I am licensed to practice therapy and teletherapy within GA. Furthermore, I am licensed to practice interjurisdictional teletherapy (via PsyPact) in the following states: AZ, AR, AL, CO, CNMI, CT, DE, DC, GA, FL, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, NJ, NV, NH, NC, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WY, & WV. But more than that, I am a Black, bisexual, woman; a nerd; an Air Force brat; and a punk rocker at heart.
From an early age, I felt compelled to help find ways to lessen, heal, and work through the pain that we all experience as people. Moreover, I wanted to break down why we as people behave, speak, and hold beliefs in ways that compound that pain. And when I looked at my options, clinical psychology resonated with me the most, as a means of doing something about it.
I know that those of us who are marginalized and oppressed bear particular kinds of suffering that can be difficult to describe and understand, if you haven’t faced it. That’s why I connect my lived experiences with years of clinical education, training, and work; for a deeper and more authentic style of therapy.
In general, I approach therapy as a collaborator that takes evidence-based treatments and tailors them to the needs of people who work with me. Some of the treatment models that I frequently use include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. Additionally, my areas of expertise include: trauma, depression, anxiety, ethical non-monogamy (particularly polyamory), BDSM, kink, spirituality, life changes/transitions, cultural competence, and social justice. Finally, I typically work with adults who are ready to actively invest in individual teletherapy.
In terms of working with individuals within the ethical non-monogamy community (including polyamory), my therapeutic approach is affirmative, culturally competent (i.e., informed about the cultures/subcultures connected to these communities), and intersectional (i.e., I acknowledge, accept, and welcome the multiple aspects of a person’s identity).
